From Colorado to Connecticut: Emily Wolff

Colorado's Class of 2014 makes their decisions...

Emily Wolff spent four very successful years in Arapahoe's cross country program, giving her the opportunity to take the next step at Quinnipiac University. Contributed photo.

Emily Wolff's best marks:

1600 meters - 5:12.84 (at altitude)

3200 meters - 11:01.17 (at altitude)

5K cross country - 18:05.00 (at altitude)

So, Emily, tell us why Quinnipiac is getting your signature. What is it about the school and the program that drew you in?

I found the school when searching for a specific physical therapy program. After meeting the coaches and team, I fell in love with the school and running program. I'm looking forward to making a strong contribution to an up and coming running program in the competitive northeast region.

Do you know what event or events the coaching staff there projects to fit you into?

My first love is cross country, but I'm eager to try the 3k and 5k during track.

I'm told that you'll be running track instead of playing lacrosse this spring. What brought about the change?

I considered going back to play lacrosse my senior year but decided that my running addiction was too strong and had the undeniable desire to improve upon last years season.

What goals do you have for your the final season of your high school career?

Going into my first track season I didn't have many expectations and was just figuring out how to race towards the end of the season. This Spring I want to get under the 11 minute mark for the 3200 and qualify for State in the1600. I like to set goals, but I seem to run better when all I'm focused on is running, not the clock.

What would be your favorite moment from your four years of cross country at Arapahoe High School?

My favorite moment would have to be winning the regional meet my junior year. I PRd and broke the school record that day and had no idea I was doing it. Seeing my time on the clock crossing the finish line, I smiled, something I haven't ever done finishing a cross country race. Then my coach, Erik Stevens, hugged me, something that also never happens.

**********
Owing to a late start on high school track and field occasioned by a previous commitment to lacrosse, Emily has a little bit of lost time to make up this spring in track. Given her times from 2013, the 11-minute 3200 goal seems in line to fall. Qualifying for state in the 1600 in the ever-competitive 5A ranks will likely provide a sterner test. Keep checking back this spring to see how the work on achieving her goal is progressing.
