USA XC Championships: Elise Cranny wins JR women's 6k! Dressel & De La Rosa top 5 finishers!

MileSplit will be on-site Saturday with photo coverage by Alan Versaw at the 2014 USA Cross Country Championships in Boulder, Colorado on the Flatiorns Golf Course. It is an off year for the IAAF World Championsips, so no Team USA spots are on the line for the grandest stage of international cross country.

Colorado state champion and NXN runner-up Elise Cranny won the junior women's 6K race at the USA Cross Country Championships in runaway fashion with her final time of 20:13, while last year's top prep out of Virginia in Sean McGorty who won the New Balance Outdoor Nationals two mile and now runs for Stanford University was equally as dominant in his victory as he covered the junior men's 8K course in 24:44.

2013 Foot Locker Nationals runner-up John Dressel (Mount Spokane WA junior) was forth in the junior men's race as the top high school finisher with a time of 25:45 on the 8K course in Boulder, while he was trailed through the chute by his teammate from the Edinburgh XC Challenge last month in Scotland, Californian and Arcadia High School senior Esteven De La Rosa in 5th place.

Preview: Nike Cross Nationals runner-up Elise Cranny from Colorado for the girls and Foot Locker Nationals runner-up John Dressel from Washington for the boys highlight the top high school entrants in the junior races. A 4:40 miler and 2:08 half miler on the track, Cranny is one of the strongest favorites to win the women's junior 6K even when factoring in the college freshmen in the field. Her toughest competition will be a familiar in-state rival in Katie Rainsberger. The Air Force High School sophomore Rainsberger was sixth at the Nike Cross National in December and last week tuned up for this race with a 2:13 800 at the Air Force High School Indoor Open.

The Mount Spokane High School (WA) junior Dressel (4:13 1600 and 9:02 3200 last spring as a sophomore) is probably the most nationally known high school prep in the field after nearly pulling out the victory at Balboa Park in December before settling for runner-up honors at the Foot Locker Nationals. However, Arcadia High School (CA) senior Esteven De La Rosa returns to the meet in hopes of improving upon his 8th place finish in last year's junior men 8K race (25:01) and represent Team USA again after earlier this winter running well in the Great Edinburgh XC Challenge with a sixth place in Scotland ahead of Dressel and a 19:23 performance on the 6K course.
