Northern Colorado Decathlon looms - July 24 and 25

Colorado doesn't have a long history of high school multi-event competitions. This meet just might be a first step in changing that.

Aside from USATF competitions, there has never been much opportunity for high school decathletes to ply their trade here in Colorado. But, in a little less than two weeks, one golden opportunity to do exactly that takes place at the track at Fossil Ridge High School--the Northern Colorado Decathlon. But, don't let the name fool you, you can compete if you're from southern Colorado, Kansas, Wyoming, or just about any place else.

So, shine up the rim of your discus, pull your spikes out of your closet and check for wear, and take a few turns on the pole. Because you don't want this meet to catch you rusty.

Fossil Ridge coach Pat Williams will host the event at his place, starting at 5 PM on Thursday evening, July 24, and continuing at 5 PM on Fridayevening, July 25. The standard order of decathlon events applies. The entry fee is $20 per athlete, and Coach Williams is your point of contact at coachwill8@gmail.com.

And maybe the best thing of all about the 5PM start is that it means running the 1500 under the lights rather instead of the heat of the day.

To compete, you must pre-register by July 22.
