Using online registration for your meet

If you've never used online registration for your meet before, you'd be surprised how much easier it makes things--for everyone.

For starters, online registration takes almost all of the work out of getting entries assembled for your meet. There are still meets that don't even do entries, but that situation really only works well for small meets. Hand scoring (almost a necessity if you haven't taken athlete entries in advance of the meet) is extremely tedious and becomes exponentially more prone to errors as the size of the meet increases.

So, unless your meet is relatively small, you're going to end up collecting entries in advance of the meet somehow. The two options you have are online registration or sending out a spreadsheet to each coach attending your meet and asking them to fill out their entries and send the spreadsheet back to you. Both work, but the former online registration gives you a consistent format and doesn't rely nearly as heavily on coaches correctly following instructions. Thus, school names come in a common format, first and last names are where they're supposed to be, and the actual uploading process to the scoring program is a whole lot quicker.

Doing entries online at Colorado Track XC/MileSplit New Mexico is also a lot quicker for coaches and a lot less subject to athlete omissions than having those same coaches fill out a spreadsheet form with their entries. Coaches will appreciate the convenience.

Many larger meets, of course, farm out the timing of their event to a timing company. Some timing companies prefer to do their own online registration. Others use a third-party system, such as that offered by Colorado Track XC/MileSplit New Mexico, to collect their entries. Colorado Track XC is pleased to be working in conjunction with Finish Line Timing/Timberline Events and Running Bears to provide online registration services for meets this fall.

The MileSplit system of online entry is extremely affordable ($.10 per athlete, $30 minimum for cross country), configured to import to any scoring program either directly or via a delimited text file, and offers both greater uniformity in results and greater ease of entry for coaches around your state.

If you have any questions or would like to inquire further about using online registration for your meet, please contact me at the e-mail address in the bottom left corner of this page. I'd be delighted to talk to you about how using Colorado Track XC/MileSplit New Mexico online registration can make your meet run more smoothly--both for you and the coaches coming to your meet.

When requesting online registration, please do so at least two weeks in advance of the meet to that we have time to get it set up will in advance of the time coaches would want to start registering for your meet (typically five or six days in advance of the meet).

Why make things any more difficult than you have to? You have better things to do with your time.
