First takes on the weekend

More detailed weekend-in-review articles are coming for small schools and larger schools, but I thought I'd try to highlight a few things early here as I try to assemble some thoughts for the more detailed articles:

  • Results reporting has gone very well this weekend. At this point, of meets that were on our radar screen, only the Frontier League meet has not reported. And, of course, we hope to see those.
  • All I can say right now about Katie Rainsberger's win at Desert Twilight is,"Wow!!" Even for Katie Rainsberger, a 16:41 has a way of resetting the bar.
  • Did you know that Montezuma-Cortez's Rachel Demby is currently on a six-meet win streak? That streak covers three states.
  • This one probably flew under your radar, but the Adams State men ran to a very impressive third in the gold division of the Paul Short Run in Pennsylvania this past weekend. In other college notes, the unattached men dominated the local college men at the Metro State Invitational, while Heather Bates served notice that she is back by winning the women's individual title at the same meet, three seconds ahead of Breanna Hemming.
  • The grasp of the Widefield boys is starting to catch up with their reach. The Gladiators take a significant meet title with the winning of Windjammer. Grandview's girls continue a tradition of dominating this meet, with freshman Peyton Dailey out in front.
  • Early in the season, Estes Park didn't look like a team that would sweep the team titles at the Patriot League meet, but things have changed some in the last month.
  • Times were fast once again at the Pat Amato, but maybe of greater noteworthiness is the fact that Cherry Creek's girls kept it reasonably close with Monarch without the services of Jordyn Colter.
  • Hats off to Ian Meek who, running his second race in as many days, wins the Andy Myers boys title with ease.
  • While on the topic of Andy Myers, did you happen to notice that the Northern League girls title came down to one point between Mountain View, Thompson Valley, and Niwot. More collisions lie on the near horizon.

Added detail on these stories, and much more, in the weekend-in-review articles to come!
