One Down, One Still Standing

Where once there were two meet options for this weekend, now there is one (plus another more remote option).

Earlier today, the Colorado School of Mines pulled the plug on their high school indoor open schedule for Saturday. Registrations were not reaching to levels required for a sustainable meet, so--for this year at least--the Colorado School of Mines High School Indoor Open won't happen.

That reduces the options within any kind of reasonable range of travel to the Great Southwest Indoor Classic in Albuquerque. And, not surprisingly, the GSW Indoor Classic did pick up a few Colorado registrations this afternoon, with perhaps more coming tonight, tomorrow, and Friday.

Registrations for the Great Southwest Indoor Classic remain open until 10 PM, MST, on Friday. No late registrations will be accepted for the meet. Registration is through Coach O. Unlike the outdoor version of the Great Southwest, there are not cutoff marks for registration in the indoor meet.

Colorado Track XC will be on-hand for the GSW Indoor Classic. Photos and video will be posted following the meet. And, I am looking forward to seeing a healthy count of Colorado athletes competing.

Another, and farther-flung, meet option takes you to the NAU Skydome on Flagstaff, Arizona. Yes, you can fly to Flagstaff, but it does take some effort. And, when you've driven as far as Albuquerque from the Front Range, you're about halfway to Flagstaff.

But, there are already Colorado entries (mostly not of the high school variety--although Taylor Alexander is one high-profile Colorado high schooler on the registration list for this meet) for the USATF West Zone Championships in Flagstaff--also on Sunday. USATF membership is most definitely required for participation in this meet.

For all intents and purposes, those are your options if you aim to compete on Presidents Day weekend.
