NPEC/BCRP Alternate Course 3A

Yesterday, I promised to produce a map of an alternate to my alternate course suggestion. I started out doing that on the forum, but didn't reproduce well there, so it gets an article of its own.

This course differs from the one proposed yesterday in how it leaves the bridge and completes the SE corner loop.

Instead of bearing left onto the trail system soon after crossing the bridge, the course continues straight along the (dirt) road to the point where the trail system has doubled back and crosses the road again at the east edge of the map above. The course then takes a right, followed soon by another right, and begins a counter-clockwise loop in the southeast corner of the BCRP property.

Closing the loop, the course continues straight across the road, then bends back to cross the road again at a point just a little east of the bridge. In a few meters, it rejoins the southeast loop for a while but then heads in a westerly direction to begin the loop of the west end of the property.

The total distance, according to Google Earth, of this entire course as shown sits at about 4930 meters.

The same variations presented as possibilities with the first course would be possible with this one as well. You could back the start line up by perhaps as much as 80 meters if a railing around an outdoor rodeo arena could be taken down for the occasion. You could also set up a finish in the vicinity of the start area that would be visible from the BCRP side of the course instead of the current stadium finish.

I don't propose to be able to tell you how popular the latter would be, only that it would be logistically possible and would resolve one oft-cited spectator issue with the current course.

Note: If you were to draw a line due north from the G of "Google Earth" in the image above, the last of three points where that line crosses the path of the course approximates the location of the bridge.
