Plains to Peaks Ushers Out USATF-Colorado Season

Karlin Rufenacht's high jump was one eye-popping result coming out of Saturday's Plains to Peaks Last Chance meet. Colorado Track XC file photo by Alan Versaw.

The club meets are done for the summer of 2015 here in Colorado. But this one didn't exactly go out on a whimper.

Numbers were down vis-a-vis previous club meets of the summer, but standout performances were not difficult to find.

Desmond Calhoun of Elevate Athletics (more or less a code name for Vista Ridge) swept the 15-16 short sprints. Hayelom Fitsum did much the same at 800 and 1500 meters, setting a summer best mark for the 1500 here in Colorado along the way. Charles Broomfield made a three-fer of the 15-16 throws, including a 142-5 in the discus.

Javan Lanier posted another standout long jump mark over 22 feet without a wind reading to go with it. DePree Kimber essentially doubled that mark for the winning triple jump, again without a wind reading to accompany.

Maya Evans, who travels to Illinois this week to fry some bigger fish, dominated the long jump, though Sydnee Larkin did manage to keep it interesting. Larkin would go on to win the 15-16 triple at a little over 38 feet. It's been a while since we've seen a freshman triple jumper over 38 feet here in Colorado.

Alexis Groce used a 1.9 wind to push her 100 winning time down to 11.82. Marlee Brown used a 2.0 wind to squeeze for 100H time down to 14.65.

To be honest, though, I've saved the best mark for last. Would you believe Karlin Rufenact at a whopping 5-8.5 in the high jump? That, ladies and gentlemen, is a 6.5-inch PR for the Peyton senior. If someone has a few extra track and field scholarship cash hanging around....
