... but not before a final hurrah in Pueblo!
It's been a long journey through the outdoor season, a very long journey. It all began on the first weekend in March and now concludes with the Colorado State Fair Street Vault on Saturday.
If you get your calculator out, that's six months of more or less uninterrupted outdoor track and field action.
And, what a season it's been! We've seen Jordyn Colter, William Mayhew, and Blake Yount smash state meet records. We held our breath on Katie Rainsberger's final lap on the Dream Mile as she took aim at Elise Cranny's all-time Colorado mile record. Eventually, she had to settle for tops on the all-time outdoor list.
And, now, it all comes down to a pit, a bar, and a forest of fiberglass poles on a street in the middle of the State Fair Complex in Pueblo. Registration, however, closed at 56 vaulters, so there is plenty of vaulting yet to be done on Saturday.
The girls start at 11 AM. Assuming they complete on schedule, the boys begin at 2 PM. And, if you still haven't seen enough vaulting to tide you over until the indoor season, the elite vaulters take aim at the bar (or, actually, just a little over the bar) starting at 5:30 PM. Vaulting will take place on the Colorado Concourse.
You will need to pay State Fair admission to enjoy the spectacle.
But, if you can't make it, Colorado Track XC will be, as usual, your go-to place to catch up with the day's happenings afterwards.
