Colorado Meet of Champions to Debut in April

Editor's Note: In keeping with Colorado Track XC policy to help publicize new cross country and track meet ideas looking for that extra bit of exposure, I from time to time, publish information about new meets arriving on the scene. The Colorado Meet of Champions is one excellent example of such an arrival.

The Inaugural Colorado Meet of Champions is an idea nurtured over the last few years to bring the best from our state together for a premier track & field event. The co-hosted event will take place on April 29-30 at Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch on the newly resurfaced 9-lane Beynon track.

Co-Meet Directors Brian Kula (Valor) and Maurice Henriques (Niwot) have collaborated and designed the meet with progressive ideas for a unique experience for Colorado High School track and field athletes with an interest in the growth and visibility of the sport in Colorado. The CMOC could, in time, grow into one the nation's premier track and field events, for Colorado annually produces some of the country's top track and field talent. An athlete-friendly environment that is set up to showcase all classifications as the top athletes in the state compete against one another for bragging rights and an opportunity to test themselves against stern competition. This is simply the best versus the best, an exciting meet for all involved.

The two-day format features Invitational, Select and Open sections. 45 athletes in the track events and 33 athletes in the field events will be accepted to fill all sections. Friday night features relays and Invitational field events with two Futures events for top Freshman athletes. Saturday's schedule begins with Open events and rolls into the Select and Invitational sections on Saturday night. The Invitational sections will feature the top 9 athletes from any class with verified times from the 2015 or 2016 seasons.

Coaches may enter any CHSAA-eligible athlete from April 18-25 on co.milesplit.com. Accepted entires will be posted at 12:00 PM MST on Wednesday April 27th. Custom medals will be awarded to the top 3 athletes and Nike will provide additional souvenirs to athletes in the Invitational sections.

The intent is simple--promote track & field in Colorado and provide an opportunity for the top talent to compete head to head, regardless of classification. You are invited to help make this annual meet one of the premier high school track and field meets the nation by entering your athletes and giving them the chance to experience competition at the highest level.
