Mountain View coach Kevin Clark hired as new Loveland athletic director

Author

Anyone around Mountain View knows Kevin Clark, the school’s longtime track and cross country coach. He’s led the Lions to state championships and is a fixture at most every other sporting event all year long.

His love for athletics, and the Loveland community, were traits Loveland High School desired for its open athletic director position, so much so that Loveland hired Clark to take over for current AD Tim Ridder, who is leaving to become the principal at Lucile Erwin Middle School. Soon, everyone around Loveland will come to know Clark’s name, too.

“I’m excited for the life opportunity and to stay in the community, but it will be hard to say goodbye to the kids at Mountain View,” Clark said. “I always saw myself as a guy who would coach for 15-25 years, so it was something I was planning on doing, but maybe not this soon. But it was a job and an opportunity I couldn’t wait around on.”

Clark will no longer teach, but serve as Loveland’s athletic director and assistant principal, officially starting sometime in July, according to LHS principal Todd Ball. Clark leaves Mountain View after a 15-year career coaching high school track and cross country.

He went through a two-interview process with Loveland, which Ball said brought forth several very qualified candidates, however, Clark’s obvious passion and familiarity with the school were attractive traits for the position.

“Kevin has skills we liked and a genuineness about him, and we’re excited to have him at Loveland High School,” Ball said. “He will be a great fit and do a great job for athletics and programs here, and for the kids. We wanted someone who was going to come in here and be the best fit.”

Clark will shadow Ridder to grow his knowledge of Loveland and gain comfort before taking over full time in the summer. Until then, it’s about helping the Lions to one last strong state track meet under his guidance.
