Valor Track Academy Set to Host K Mac Twilight on Sunday

There's a new meet on the USATF-Colorado club scene this weekend. And this meet pays tribute to the memory of one of Colorado's best ever high school track and field athletes.

Kyle Macintosh was a regular on the club track and field scene during is high school days and also a regular in the purple and gold of Littleton High School. It would be impossible to list all of high school school accomplishments here, but his senior season included 400 (48.06) and 60H (7.90) titles at the Simplot Games in February and a 300H (37.58) title at the Colorado State Track Meet. I believe that state meet included a leg on a winning 4x400 relay for Littleton as well, helping Littleton's boys to a state meet margin of victory of nearly 40 points.

Macintosh went on to a career at the University of Colorado. His top time of 52.20 in the 400 meter hurdles was clocked at Mt. SAC in 2012. Macintosh also finished sixth in the event at the PAC-12 Championships that year.

Brian Kula, who coached Macintosh at Littleton High School, recalls Macintosh as "a special kid with a tremendous work ethic.I was very close with his family and was blessed to be by his bedside to pray over him as he went home to be with the Lord.... His infectious smile and fun-loving personality always made Kyle attractive to others. His impact in the USATF, high school and college track scene was great. He led the ATS Elite team to many regional and national successes and finished his career as a PAC-12 finalist prior to his cancer diagnosis. His life was cut short, but his impact and influence to the track and field community was vast."

And so, this year's running of the Kyle Macintosh Twilight (and probably further editions of the meet in years to come) celebrates the contributions and memory of Kyle Macintosh.

This year's meet will be held Sunday at the track at Valor Christian High School, where Kula now coaches. Valor Track Academy is the official meet host. Field event competition begins at 4 PM, with track events starting at 4:30 PM.

Colorado Track XC will be on-hand for coverage of the meet.
