Hannah McReavy Patiently Does in the Competition

If you caught only an early glimpse of the 3A Region 2 Girls race, you probably left with the impression the Lilly Lavier was pulling off the victory of her career. Lavier led the race through the first mile, but there was a change in the works coming up from behind.

Stalking patiently from behind were Hannah McReavy of St. Mary's and Chantae Steele of The Classical Academy. By the midway point of the race, both McReavy and Steele had overtaken Lavier and were off on their own pursuits of regional royalty.

Steele would, however, be unable to close the gap on McReavy, who would run to a 17-second margin of victory. Lavier would finish in third, seven seconds and one place of middle school rival Ruby Brown of Salida.

For Brown, the fourth here was likely her best race of the season and a crucial element of the Salida team title. Usual Salida leader Taryn Ceglowski finished in seventh, leaving Salida in need of Brown's big finish.

The Classical Academy held the lead over Salida through three runners, but Cecilia Kastner and Bari Beasley beat TCA's fourth to the line and sealed the win for the Spartans. Alamosa and St. Mary's joined Salida and TCA as state-qualifying teams.
