2017 CHSCA Clinic Nearly Upon Us

Former mile world record holder Jim Ryun is among the featured speakers at this year's CHSCA Track and Field Clinic.

It's not too late to get in on the annual Colorado High School Coaches Association Track and Field Clinic, but it soon will be. The clinic runs Friday and Saturday of this week at the Radisson Hotel at Parker Road and I-225 in SE Denver.

Featured speakers from outside the ranks of Colorado high school current or recent coaches include former mile world record holder Jim Ryun, Adams State and Trinidad State coaches Damon and Lauren Martin, Colorado State University coach Karim Wahab, and Colorado high school record holders Matt Hemingway (high jump) and Pat Manson (pole vault).

This year's clinic, however, also brings a heavy dose of current and very recent Colorado high school coaches, to include Josh Trahan, Greg Weich, Jonathan Dalby, Jeff Donnel, Kelli Kunz, and more.

Just as important as the clinic sessions are the opportunities to participate in the regional rep meeting on Friday, to get your mandatory rules update for coaches taken care of on Saturday, and to renew acquaintances with fellow coaches on both Friday and Saturday.

See the Colorado High School Coaches Association website for more details about both the clinic and the organization, including a complete clinic schedule.

As two additional notes related to the clinic...

1. Jonathan Dalby and Greg Weich are still taking questions to field as part of their combined clinic session on Saturday morning.

2. My clinic session early on Saturday morning is listed as Distance Philosphy. That's kind of a generic title that doesn't really tell you much. I can be more precise by telling you it's about workout individualization (such as you can accomplish in a team setting as large as many of us have) for distance types and keeping athlete recovery in mind as you design workouts and racing schedules. Assuming I get through the material I have prepared, I'll be taking questions as well, so if you have questions related to either of my two general topics, please come loaded.
