Track Meet Musical Chairs (Update #6)

The rescheduling havoc has begun.

The Holy War was the first meet to move, setting up their new camp on Wednesday.

Today, the Weld County Championships also moved to Wednesday and will now run a sort of combined Welco Championships and Welco JV Championships. That sounds like a lot of bodies at one meet. But, it's probably better than the alternative...

The Coronado Cougar Classic, still scheduled for Friday, moved its start time up by two hours to 9 AM in hopes of beating at least most of the bad weather on Friday. Options are limited at a district stadium such as the Coronado Cougar Classic uses, so they did what they could. We'll hope it was enough.

The Lyons JV Championships have canceled, freeing up the date, and not a few coaches, for a reschedule of the No-Name Invitational to Wednesday in Longmont.

The Battle Mountain Invitational threw in the towel for this week, and heads are currently being scratched over when, if at all, they're going to be able to reschedule.

More meets are bound to pull the trigger and bail (somewhere!) soon.

All this raises a question, and perhaps a very large opportunity.

CHSAA's legislative council just approved splitting squads on the final week of the season. But, there's a severe shortage of meets you could split athletes out to, and the deadline for submitting meets for approval has passed. So, perhaps an enterprising meet postponement moves said meet into a Monday, Tuesday, or possibly Wedensday slot on the last week before State?

Just thinking out loud here folks...

Update #1: Vista Ridge Classic has ducked for cover and moved to Monday, May 1. I will continue to update here as more meet change-of-date notices are received.

Update #2: As of Thursday, Grandview and Liberty Bell have canceled. Elizabeth has moved to May 4. The carnage has begun in earnest.

Update #3: Add Springfield to the list of cancellations.

Update #4: Alamosa has moved their High Altitude Challenge to May 2. Waiting for the curtain to drop on the last couple of Saturday meets still standing east of the Continental Divide.

Update #5: On a cheerier note than previous updates, Grand Junction Central is still accepting teams for their Saturday meet at Stocker Stadium until 9:00 PM. Better hustle if that's your plan B...

Update #6: Ram Charger and Strasburg have now officially canceled for Saturday.
