2017 St. Vrain Invitational: Perry, McConnell Offer No Quarter (corrected)

There weren't any meet records set at Saturday's St. Vrain Invitational, but Charlie Perry had things safely in hand just the same.

For 18 years now, the St. Vrain Invitational has run circuits out back of Lyons High School. The meet has grown for an almost-no-account meet back in the early part of the millennium to one of the biggest and most fiercely competitive meets in the state.

It was all of that on Saturday.

To be candid, conditions have been better for the St. Vrain Invitational than they were on Saturday. Even by the first race, temperatures were in a steady climb. And, the heat put a hard lid on the early paces in both the 2A-3A and 4A-5A boys races. Mercifully, most of the JV Girls race, the final race of the morning, saw the sun sliding behind a cloud and staying put.

But, everyone still showed up and raced. And we still learned a lot.

The pages of the article follow the order of the races.
