Colorado Track XC Cup: Winter Sports Results In

Two state titles for Regis Jesuit in basketball, plus another in ice hockey have put the school in red right on the heels of Cherry Creek for the lead in 5A. In fact, if it were not for the limitation of scoring only two sports that are not contested in at least three classifications, Regis would be holding a one-point lead over Cherry Creek at this time. Spring sports will determine the winner.

Well behind Cherry Creek and Regis in the 5A standings are Mountain View, Highlands Ranch, and Fairview.

In 4A, Rock Canyon picked up a convincing state championship in girls swimming but surrended the overall lead to Broomfield and second place to Mullen. Cheyenne Mountain currently sits in fourth and Lewis-Palmer in fifth in a very tight race. Broomfield's rise to the top was sparked by state championships in wrestling and girls basketball.

In 3A, Faith Christian, state champion in boys basketball, has taken over the lead from The Classical Academy. TCA, leader after the fall sports, picked up zero points from winter sports and fell to second place. Kent Denver, Valley, and Holy Family round out the top five.

Limon, though it also picked up zero points from winter sports, retained its lead in 2A, but now only by one point over Wray, two points over Rocky Ford, and three points over Nederland. Paonia and the Colorado Springs School are tied for fifth. Wray closed the gap on Limon with a state championship in girls basketball, Rocky Ford closed with a strong finish in wrestling, and Nederland climbed in the standings by virtue of strong finishes in the state skiing championships.

A fourth-place finish in boys basketball helped Otis to retain it's grasp on the top position in 1A. Otis has plenty of company at the top, however. McClave's state championship in girls basketball leaves them only a point out of first place. Close behind the Cardinals are, in order, Crested Butte, Caliche, and Hi-Plains.
