2018 Larry Pickering Invitational: A Glorious Day Turns Up More Nice Performances

It was 300 meters of tight competition between Jacob Yates and Daniel Fuhr.

Jeremy Cody was among the first to drop a big mark. Cody came into the high jump competition comparatively late, but he had no need of messing with lower bars. Cody's 6-6 clearance tied him for second-place in the state's all-classification high jump standings. Even bigger results should be coming soon.

Kain Medrano was back for another show in the Dutch Clark throwing rings. Medrano pitched a 52-10.5 winner in the shot put, good enough for third in the state's all-class rankings. But, Medrano was scarcely done when he completed that toss. He would come back in the afternoon for a massive 179-0 flight of the discus, putting him nearly 20 feet ahead of the rest of the state in the discus.

Incidentally, #2 in the state's discus rankings belongs to Charles Broomfield of Coronado. Broomfield's 159-7 also took second in the meet.

Luc Andrada improved his 100 meter time from last week with a 10.92, good enough both to claim the meet title and to solidify his position at the top of the state 100 meter rankings. His 22.36 winner in the 200 was just .03 off his winning mark of last week.

Frank Nash went 11.17 in the 100 to lay claim to the #2 spot in the state rankings.

Ryan Outler led a tight succession of four across the 800 meter finish, all in under 2:03. Joining Outler in the state's top 20 in the event were Bryce Kizewski, Derek Ashby, and Ryan Moen.  2:02-and-change won't hang around near to the of the leader board for long, but the times do mark the four as bona fide 800 meter threats.

For Moen, it was the second time of the day he found himself staring at the back of a Widefield singlet at the finish line. After leading most of the race, Moen was nipped at the finish by a blazing kick from Cole Munoz in the 1600. Both Munoz and Moen finished in the low 4:30s.

TCA's Mason Norman soloed the entire last 3100 meters of the 3200 to take the win in 9:45.08. Currently, that has him at the top of the state leaderboard for the event, though the season is still young.

Jacob Yates and Daniel Fuhr battled to a tight finish in the 300 hurdles, with both laying claim to top-10 marks in the event for the time being. Yates is all alone atop the 2A 300H rankings.

Ellicott's Chiante' Stewart stunned the larger-school horizontal jumpers with a 20-10 to win the long and a 42-4 to finish second in the triple.
