Leap Of The Week: Sam Dirkes

Sam Dirkes recorded a throw of 162-9 feet for a 15-foot personal best in the discus this past weekend.

This time a year ago Sam Dirkes held a modest personal best of 135-10 in the discus. It was a distance he hovered around for nearly a month before throwing 149-9 in late April. He went on to finish eighth at the state championships in his first trip to the big show. His 149-9 would stand as his best for nearly 11 months before he demolished it this past weekend.

How much of an improvement would the word "demolish" represent? About 15 feet.

Dirkes threw 162-9 at the Windsor Invitational for a massive personal best, and a second-place finish. The improvement is the difference between hovering around the top-10 in the state in all-classification, and rocketing to No.3

A 15-foot leap is more than worthy of this week's Leap Of The Week.
