The Coronado Cougar Growls

Small School Girls

It's been a while since Brittany Fuchs burst onto the scene. And, she's still making headlines.

The Calhan senior posted her season-best (and wind legal) times in both the 100 and 200. Her 12.82 in the finals of the 100 earned her third, while her 25.58 in the 200 earned her second place and a shiny new PR.

Freshman Jordan Burnett of South Park also turned a few heads in prelims, posting a wind-legal marks of 12.84 in the 100 and 26.83 in the 200.

Salida's Ruby Brown made waves with a 1:00.54 in the 400 and 16.42 in the 100 hurdles.

Jerraldawn Rector of Simla reprised a state championship kind of effort from last spring with a 5-2 in the high jump, good enough for second. For good measure, Rector added a 16-5.25 in the long jump. It's been said she's been known to bounce around the hallways at Simla High School, too.

The Classical Academy picked up two event titles on the afternoon, one from Erika Willis in the pole vault (12-4) and the other from Chantae Steele with an even-split effort of 2:18.17.

Vanguard's Madi Moen rewrote the school record book with a fifth-place effort of 5:23.01 in the 1600. Vanguard added some noise late in the day with a 4:12-flat effort in the 4x400, beating all the assembled masses save for Air Academy.

Burlington's Alex Bauer continues a school tradition of excellence in the throws, taking second in the discus at 123-1 and third in the shot put at 37-even.

All told, the small school girls left a large impression on a very big meet in Colorado Springs yesterday.
