Cole Sprout Claims Sophomore Class Record At Brooks PR

Cole Sprout ran 8:49.45 to add the two-mile sophomore class record to his resume.

Cole Sprout added yet another record to his name - this time it was the sophomore national class record in the two-mile.
Or, let me reword that.
Cole Sprout had crossed the finish line first 12 times in 2018, but his winning streak came to an end at the Brooks PR Invitational.
Ok, one more time.
Cole Sprout may have crossed the finish line second - his first loss in 2018 - but he did nab a sophomore class record in the process.
You know, either way you write it, it's simply impressive.
The Valor Christian sophomore capped his stellar season with an 8:49.45 runner-up finish in the two-mile at the Brooks PR Invitational. His finish was less than a second behind the winner, James Mwaura, who ran 8:48.76.
Sprouts run solidifies his status on the national scene. He dominated Colorado all year, and now on the national stage he has made it clear: the next two years are his.
And Sprout wasn't the only Coloradan in Seattle for most of the most prestigious races in the country.
Michael Mooney capped his high school career with an impressive 9:07 in the two-mile. While it's clear it wasn't the race he wanted, Mooney's season bodes well for his future, as it was his first real dive into competitive distance running. I'm sure we'll hear his name more in coming years - on the NCAA level.
Likewise, Cruz Culpepper ran 4:11.75 in the mile, which ends a season that started with a 4:21 PR indoors. That's the fourth time the Niwot sophomore has run under 4:14 this year.
For the girls Madison Mooney capped her high school career with a 4:47.70 fourth-place finish in the mile, which saw the top four break 4:50.
In the 400 Lily Williams enjoyed her extended season by capping it with a fifth-place finish. The Grandview sophomore ran 54.52.
Emily Sloan made it 10 for 10 in the 100 hurdles this weekend. The Rock Canyon senior made sure to keep her sheet clean, as she ran 13.55 to hand Grace Stark her first loss of the season.
