Leap Of The Week: Shantell Hafner

When you're on a team of stars it's hard to shine, but that hasn't stopped Mountain Vista's Shantell Hafner from making gains.

As a freshmen Hafner finished 81st at State, and held a personal best of 19:34. During the outdoor track season she ran PRs of 2:29 in the 800, and 5:48 in the 1,600.

But she's made big, big gains over the summer.

After opening her 2018 season in 19:50, she ran a PR of 19:11 at Liberty Bell, and was the seventh runner on the US No. 1 Mountain Vista squad.

Ok, PR at Liberty Bell...

Clearly, she had another gear because the Mountain Vista sophomore dropped another 26 seconds off her Liberty Bell time to finish sixth at Dave Sanders in 18:45. For reference - an 18:45 5k is 6:02 per mile. This, coming from a 5:48 miler...

Oh yeah, and she finished third for Mountain Vista.

Hafner has rapidly become one of the reasons Vista Nation is on top of the nation, and her massive PR at Dave Sanders is more than worthy of this week's Leap of the Week.
