Throwdown In Thornton

Cole Nash smashed his PR by 33 seconds to win in 15:38.

Chatfield's Cole Nash has been very quietly putting together a stellar season of his own. He's finished in the top four five times, and has three wins to his name.

But Friday was perhaps his biggest win yet, because it came with a 33-second PR, and his first sub 16.

Like Beckner in the girl's race, Nash waited until the second half of the race before throwing in his cards, and he was met with a worthy challenger: Rangeview's Luke Sundberg

With a gentle forward lean and his eyes caste forward, Nash led Sunberg through blistering final mile that saw the duo a clear 30 meter clear of their chasers.

Heading into the final 600 meters it was all Nash, who poured on the pace while Sundberg pumped as hard as he could to keep the imaginary rubber-band between them from breaking. Nash clawed at the course as his attentions, like Sundberg, were entirely in front of him.

The Chatfield junior rounded the final turn and powered into the straight away to his third win of the season in a massive PR of 15:38.

Behind him a gassed Sundberg held on for second in 15:51, a time bettered only by his Liberty Bell performance.

The third an last runner to dip under 16 was Fairview sophomore Henry Murphy, who ran 15:56.

There was no one who could keep pace with Fort Collins.

Led by James Gregory's 16:05 fourth-place finish, 5A No. 4 Fort Collins ran away with the team race. The visitors from the north tallied 55 points and pumped three into the top eight, and all five into the top 22. Behind them 5A No. 7 Fairview finished second with 91 points, and Fossil Ridge finished third with 121 points.
