Littleton is the defending state champion. They're in the lead at the midway point of the season. But, the lead is anything but comfortable.
At this point, it appears we have about six teams in serious contention. To this point, Littleton's strength has been largely in relays. The strength of their closest competitor, Doherty, lies almost entirely in individual events. Cherry Creek, likewise, hasn't dipped into relays much, but Loveland and Arapahoe have. ThunderRidge is a legitimate 5A power, but--for the moment--their virtual meet point total may be slightly inflated due to having marks figured from a meet in Chandler, Arizona, figured into their total. The low elevation, big meet atmosphere, and warmer temperatures (without the winds that plaged Doherty in Las Vegas) aren't a common experience of other top Colorado 5A teams to date.
Probably none of these teams have the accumulation of talent necessary to simply pull away from the rest. Every point will count when state comes around and, for the teams for whom relays are essential, every exchange will matter.
