Mecheso, Tuliamuk Pick Up Weekly Cross Country Honors

Oklahoma State's Girma Mecheso and Iowa State's Aliphine Tuliamuk have garnered Big 12 Cross Country Runner of the Week honors. Both student-athletes earn the award for the first time in their careers. Tuliamuk  is the first Cyclone runner to be recognized since Lisa Koll last season, while Mecheso earns OSU's second weekly honor of the season.

Girma Mecheso, Oklahoma State, Jr., Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Mecheso led OSU to a first-place team finish at the 74th-annual Cowboy Jamboree. He placed first with a time of 23:46.17 in the 8,000 meter race to help the Cowboys score 82 points more than second-place finisher Michigan. The Ethiopia native finished more than 20 seconds faster than the second place runner. He was the first of five OSU participants to finish in the top 10. Mecheso is the first OSU individual champion at the event since Mindaugas Pukstas won in 2003.

Aliphine Tuliamuk, Iowa State, So., Kapenguria, Kenya
In her first performance of the 2010 season, Tuliamuk placed fourth to help the Iowa State women to a third-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational. The Kenya native finished with a time of 20:58.20 in the 6,000 meter race. The meet, held in St. Paul, Minn., featured some of the top teams in the nation, including Arizona, New Mexico, Duke and Providence.
