At 2.1 miles, Alfredo Lebron and Josiah Valenzuela were still neck-and-neck. Over the next mile, however, Lebron would open a nearly 30-second gap. Photo by Alan Versaw.
There's a lot to be learned on opening weekend, and we learned a bunch today.
The girls' races preceded the boys' today. In 4A we learned that Evergreen and Cheyenne Mountain make for a pretty good match. Evergreen built just enough of a lead with their top three of Sam Skold, Maura O'Brien, and Erin Dobey to hold off the Indians at positions 4 and 5. The final team tally of 115 - 122 tells us there's much yet to be settled between these two powers. Greta Sloan led Cheyenne Mountain with a 7th-place finish.
Mountain View looks to be much improved over last year's edition, but they are still a fair bit behind Evergreen and Cheyenne Mountain at this stage in the game.
There really wasn't much to be decided among the 4A girls individuals.
Aubrey Till, 4A's new kid on the block, apparently...
