Will there be a real golden baton? :)

That's a good question. There certainly could be a gold-colored baton award made (five of them, actually). So, here's a question for the coaches out there... If there was such a physical award, would it be a trinket you wouldn't know what to do with or would it be something that would be a tangible symbol of pride in the school's relay program? If I can get some feedback on that question, that would go a long way toward determining whether there'd be an actual award or not.

CoachVersaw There is a great deal of pride in our program (Glenwood Springs) when it comes to relays. Since we do not recruit from outside of our city limits, the athletes and coaches realize that individual success will be difficult to obtain year in and year out. However, if we pool our resources into relay teams, the collective motivation to beat the bigger schools and represent our small community becomes very strong. Back to the point at hand...Yes, a golden baton with CHSAA or Milesplit or Colordo TrackXC printed across the aluminum side would be a treasured item for us. We could find some room in our trophy case to proudly display this item. If not the trophy case, my office would be a fantastic resting site so I could look at it every day and enjoy the memories of the kids that ran on those relays.

I think that a "golden baton" award would be really cool. I know that UCS sells screen printed batons although they are really expensive. Maybe there is a sponsor out there that would be willing to fund this award.
We like relays here in Loveland; a Golden Baton would be a cool award.
That input helps. I will spend some time here in the quieter months of the year trying to find someone who could craft a nice design.
Dan, I appreciate the thought about a sponsor, but I'd only want to go that direction if a potential sponsor had a big passion for the idea. For me, it would have to be more than somoeone's arm I could twist enough for a sponsorship.
Loveland teams have taken a lot of pride in their past relays. It's intense competition just to earn a spot on their relays. A golden baton would be a nice goal and/or reward for relay team efforts.
