Regional Glances: 4A Region 6

Hunter Burnham has combined forces with Gregg Salaz to give Eagle Valley a potent 1-2 that few western slope teams have been able to counter. Colorado Track XC file photo.

4A Region 6 is one of three different regions converging on Delta's Confluence Park on Wednesday. Like the others, some things seem fairly predictable, while other things bring a much larger measure of uncertainty. Here's a quick look at the scenarios, remembering that five boys and five girls teams will qualify for state out of this region:

Boys

Most Likely: Durango, Eagle Valley, Battle Mountain

Bubble: Summit, Montrose, Palisade, Delta

Girls

Most Likely: Battle Mountain, Durango, Summit

Bubble: Glenwood Springs, Delta, Eagle Valley, Palisade, Montrose

Among the boys, Durango and Eagle Valley have been dominant teams all season, but Battle Mountain seems to be very well positioned as well heading into the regional. The Durango, Battle Mountain, and Summit girls teams should be able to advance without too much resistance, but it gets cluttered, and very interesting behind these squads. A number of 4A eyes will be tuned in to how well the #5 runners for each of the big three girls teams perform as that is where the question marks--and the potential possibilities--for these teams reside.
