Historically, Telluride is strong in the distance events. Jaden Evans keeps that tradition alive.

Unlike other Miners, the Miners from Telluride specialize in digging holes for other folks, not themselves. As a result, it is going to be tough to keep pace with Telluride this spring if you're one of the other San Juan Basin League boys teams. Mancos checks in at a distant second in the depth rankings.

And, as a mildly pedantic point of geography, neither Telluride nor Ouray is situated in the San Juan Basin. But, evidently, the actual San Juan Basin folks were kind enough to let them in even so.

Top returning athletes from around the league include: Austin Overholt, DJ Snow, Jackson Pettinos, Hunter Brier, and Jaden Evans (Telluride), Caleb Yoder, Griff Huver, Jake McKie, and Simon Kearns (Mancos), Cael McHenry, Forest Pejsa, Ruben Gomez, and Tristan Medina (Dolores), Lincoln Sackman (Ouray), Bryan Gram, Colten Smithson, Lakota TwoCrow, and Natoni Cundiff (Ignacio), and Tim Enos (Nucla).

A list of freshman cross country runners from around the league is provided at the bottom to offer an indication of how those individuals might impact distance scoring in the league this spring. It's a short list.

Cross Country Freshmen

Elco Garcia, a freshman at Ignacio High School, doesn't show on this list because he ran cross country for Bayfield. He would, however, rank at the top of the league's cross country freshmen (17:30 PR), so I include his photo here:
