There's a Solstice in Tucson on September 8. Who knew?
Tucson is a lesser center of cross country powers than Phoenix, but it's still worth taking a look at Tucson results.
Desert Vista came down out of the Phoenix area to clean up on the girls side of this meet. It's early in the season, so I don't know if DV was running their entire regular varsity (some names, though, are certainly recognizable as varsity types from last year), but they didn't need the entire varsity to claim the title. Highland ran a distant, but presumably respectable, second. Salpointe Catholic was still more distant in third. We'll watch DV closely this fall to see how they're faring in their first recent season without Jeff Messer at the helm.
In an individual result of note. Haley Wolf beat Samantha Schadler, 18:07.5 to 18:48.5. I don't think many people around the region would have expected that kind of gap.
For the boys, presumably we didn't get the regular Desert Vista varsity. If we did, they could be on the ropes, as both Highland and Campo Verde got by them with ease.
Right now, that's all we have from last weekend out of the Grand Canyon State.
