Boris Berian will likely be best remembered from his high school career for an incredibly fast first lap of his State 800, then looking back in disbelief at how far ahead of the field he was. Berian held on the win that 800, but it got a lot closer before it was over.
In high school, Berian was much more of a 400 type. But, he did well with both the 400 and 800. His top 400 was 46.93, and his top 800 was 1:52.18. He won state titles in both events in both his junior and senior years.
Berian did dabble in cross country during his high school career, but it was most definitely his 400 and 800 that left the most lasting impressions.
Since high school, of course, Berian has developed into one of the world's top 800 meter runners. But you saw it all first on tracks right here in Colorado.
