Eaton may not have quite as many of the top-end athletes returning this year as in some previous years, but jumper Alexis Lamoreaux should be one they can count on to help keep the rest of the league at bay.

Eaton has been the dominant girls power in this league for a long, long time. Where other teams have pockets of strength, Eaton brings a team that is typically strong across all of the events areas. Some years are deeper than others, of course, for the Reds, but it's been a long time since anyone in 3A could take beating this team for granted.

Frontier Academy may represent a credible challenge, but indications from cross country season are that the full complement of distance runners the Wolverines had last spring may not be back in the fold this year. If so, that hurts Frontier Academy's chances severely.

Platte Valley, a traditionally strong program, is trying to figure a way to bounce back from a couple of rough years of graduation.

Sterling wakes up to life after Kylie Chavez. Resurrection took a couple hits to graduation but probably isn't a team you want to go to sleep on even so. For the rest of the league, there's a substantial matter of closing the gap to be done.

The "depth analysis" below scores like a meet, but not exactly. 15 points for the top-ranked returning athletes, 14 for second, and so on. A typical league meet scores only eight, but this gives a fuller picture of what each team has, less freshmen and assuming all of last year's contributors come back. There will, of course, be movement to be found on the standings below once the actual competition begins in March. But, this represents a nice place to start thinking about things.

And, if you want to know how freshman distance might impact the league standings, here's one good window on that: Patriot League Freshman Girls XC Rankings.

2017 co HS F Outdoor Track Team Scores (Returners Only)

Calculated as of January 05, 2018

These rankings were calculated by scoring the rankings as a meet. We scored 15 deep for individuals only. For example, for individuals 1st place received 15 points for their team, on down to 1 point for 15th place.

Athletes whose graduation years are unknown were left out of the list.
