Jimmy Scavuzzo helped elevated SkyView's 4x8 to a new state-leading mark.
Over the next week and a half I'll dive more into the relays of each classifications, but to widen the scope first, we'll take a look at the best relay squads in the state - as of May 4, 2018.
We'll start with the boys 4x800, where SkyView Academy has put up an insanely impressive state-leading mark of 7:56.84. And this isn't just the best in 3A (which it is, by 11-seconds...), this is the No. 1 mark in all classifications. The squad of Jimmy Scavuzzo, Jordan Wilson, Chris Wilhoite, and Tyler Scholl put together the best 4x8 in the state at the Liberty Invite nearly a week ago. The time leads 5A-powerhouse Mountain Vista by one-second, and it's one of two marks under 8-minutes this season.
SkyView's No. 1 mark in the 4x8 is the only blemish in Fountain-Fort Carson's dominating hold over the state's leading marks in the relays.
The Trojans hold No. 1 marks in the 4x1, 4x2, and 4x4.
Fountain-Fort Carson's 41.70 in the 4x1 leads the state by nearly a full second over Smoky Hill, while their 4x2 of 1:26.39 leads by half-a-second over Cherry Creek. Perhaps one of their more dominating events in the fan-favorite 4x400, where they lead the state by four-seconds with a 3:18.53.
