Gunnison's Kelita Baroumbaye is the top returner in the triple jump.
Cue the sirens, because on paper we've got a potential Upset Alert already ringing in bright red circles. Can a team win a state title off field events, and one track runner? Based on returning athletes, that may be the case for Sterling, because they're the favorite for next year's state championship. They've got nine returning state performers from this year's squad, and only one of them is a track athlete. Could they pull off the a state track and field title with mostly field athletes? Possibly.
But I wouldn't count The Classical Academy or Elizabeth out. The two teams went 2-3 this year and look to have a similar result next year, though I'd imagine they'll want to to take another step or two up on the podium.
With the graduation of Seven Lindsey, the sprints will see a new state champion next year, and the most likely candidate is Jayden Omi
. He's the top returner in the 100 and the 200, and he could potentially threaten to make it a sweep, as he is the No.2 returner in the 400, right behind defending state champion Chad Jackson
In the distance events there is no one clear dominating figure. Between the 800, 1,600, and 3,200, we've got a different top returner in each event, though we see the same three or four names across each event, just in mixed order.
