This meet is one of a trio that moved from Lyons to Broomfield Commons Park in response to the flooding that ravaged the town of Lyons last month. But, nothing about the quality of the competition was jeopardized by the move.

Among the boys, Broomfield certainly has the air of the favorite here. But, there's some quality in the region below the top position as well. Niwot, Denver North, and Erie are each angling for state qualifications. If they all make it, that leaves Centaurus on the outside looking end. If that sounds a little strange to your ears, it does to mine as well. Don't expect any of these teams to be going away easily.

Niwot figures to be a heavy favorite among the girls. It will come as something of a surprise of Erie, Broomfield, and Centaurus don't claim the other three state berths.

As individuals go, try to remember that this region is Elise Cranny's region. Cranny has run only two high school races all season, but figure this one makes three. Niwot could qualify for state easily without Cranny running, but it would seem strange if she didn't. If we concede first place to Cranny, that may leave Kayla Young and Christa Boettiger to do battle for second.

Among the boys, Ethan Gonzales carries the biggest reputation into the regional meet. Jairo Tiscareno and Jeffrey Lazo carry lofty times into the regional race, but they're Wiggins times and will require validation on the Broomfield course. Jake Link and Shane Mathis have been running well of late.
