NEW ORLEANS GÇö Olympian and University of Colorado senior Shalaya Kipp has been named to the 2014 WomenGÇÖs Preseason Watch List for The Bowerman, as announced by the USTFCCCA on Thursday.

The Bowerman, which debuted in 2009, is presented annually by the USTFCCCA to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track & field athletes in the nation. Past winners include Olympic gold medalist and decathlon world-record holder Ashton Eaton (2010), 10,000-meter Olympic silver medalist Galen Rupp (2009) and 2011 IAAF 1,500-Meters World Champion Jenny Simpson (2009).

The Watch List consists of 10 athletes and is determined by the WomenGÇÖs Watch List Committee that is made up of four individuals. Each of the four submits a rank-ordered top 10 list (vote totals will not be disclosed) and the 10 student-athletes who garner the most vote-points are included on the Watch List. Student-athletes who received votes but did not make the top 10 are also listed as receiving mention.

Kipp redshirted during the 2013 NCAA indoor and outdoor seasons, but still competed unattached and earned a spot on the U.S. roster to compete at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Kipp placed ninth in the first heat of the preliminaries with a time of 9:45.97. She ran a season-best mark of 9:37.23 at the Monaco Grand Prix on July 19 a few weeks earlier, placing fourth. Kipp was the top American in the race, finishing behind three professional runners from Kenya.

The Salt Lake City native also won the elite section of the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in April, crossing the finish in 9:52.82 in her first steeplechase of the season.

The three-time track All-American will race a full indoor and outdoor season in 2014. She was the 2012 NCAA Champion in the steeplechase, becoming CUGÇÖs third individual to win the steeplechase since 2006. The Buffs have won six of the last eight NCAA Steeplechase Titles.  Kipp represented the U.S. in the steeplechase at the 2012 Olympics after placing third at the USA Outdoor Championships.
