Tell us a little about how your decision ended up as Colorado State University...

I absolutely love Colorado, and when I traveled to other colleges outside of the state, no matter how wonderful they were, I just couldn’t picture myself living somewhere else. Fortunately, I had an opportunity to spend time with the coaches and the team at CSU. I felt welcomed by the team, and I liked that the coaches seem enthusiastic and excited about the future of the team. Also, my brother and I are very close and he attends CSU, so I feel very fortunate for many reasons to be attending CSU and running for their track team!

What will you be studying at Colorado State?

I have declared my major as Mathematics. CSU offers seven concentrations in math and I am choosing the Actuarial Science route.

You ran at Highlands Ranch at the tail end of the Eleanor Fulton era. Was there anything in particular that you learned from Eleanor that has paid big dividends for you?

As a freshman, I looked up to Eleanor as such a role model. It was an exciting time to be running with such an elite runner and I admired her talent. She made me realize what it takes to excel and her work-ethic inspired me to work as hard as I can and be the best I can be.

What's been your favorite high school event, and why?

The 800 meters is definitely my favorite event. Ironically, I ran it for the first time at a USATF meet in 8th grade without training for it. I got sick and swore I’d never run it again. That promise to myself changed freshman year when there was an opportunity to run in the 4x800 meter relay at State. With the help of my coaches, I started training for it mid-season in hopes of landing a spot on the team. By the end of the season, it was my favorite event!

Can you pick out a single highlight that stands out among all the other moments of your high school career?

The highlight of my high school career was placing 5th at State in the 800 meter run my junior year. I was ranked 6th going into the meet, and my goal was to better my ranking. A close second highlight-moment was coming in 2nd at State in the 4x800 meter relay with Eleanor Fulton, Kristen Kientz, and Kristi Oslund. It was such an honor to run with such an elite group as a freshman.

Are there any goals that have eluded you so far as a distance runner that you want to chase down here in your final high school season?

I’ve had a great high school experience and I’ve met all my track goals. The only goal I haven’t been able to achieve is breaking 19 minutes for cross country—missed by 3 seconds. Dang! Although I didn’t make my cross country goal, I’m hopeful to break 2:12 in the 800 meter run and reach 55 seconds in the 400 meter dash this coming season in track. I’m also very excited about running relays with my teammates and hopefully going to State with them!

**********
There's a lot to see this spring if you end up at the same track meet as Highlands Ranch sometime this spring, so be looking for that opportunity. A 55 and 2:12 is a pretty nice double, so be sure to get up by the fence and yell a little louder for Macy as she goes by in pursuit of the goal.
