Lindsey Kroboth’s intent was to look outside Colorado for her future.

She didn’t want to settle for an in-state school without even checking, without ever knowing. No, the Thompson Valley track and field athlete thought she’d be leaving Colorado. It was her intention.

But a trip to Fort Collins and a visit with the Colorado State track team scrapped those plans.

“Colorado State wasn’t my first thought to be honest when I was looking,” she said. “But I went for a visit and loved the coaches, and the girls there were so great.”

In the end, the move made sense. Kroboth would participate in a competitive Mountain West conference, remain close to home and could pay a visit to Thompson Valley every now and then.

From the Rams’ perspective, she made a great candidate for a heptathlete, which consists of eight different events. Already an accomplished high jumper and sprinter, Kroboth liked the idea of being a multi, because in her mind that’s what track and field is all about.

“I’m so excited because maybe I can be good at other events and I just don’t know it yet,” Kroboth said with a laugh. “I’m just so excited for the whole thing. And I think (CSU assistant coach Tim) Cawley is a very good multi coach. If anybody can make me into a multi, it’s probably coach Cawley.”

Kroboth said for her final year in high school she won’t hone in on any one particular event, but rather try and improve as an overall athlete and learn the specifics when she gets to CSU.

Staying in Colorado is a move TVHS track coach Matt Norton endorses, saying that CSU offers a lot in its track and field program.

He’s seen her progress from an excellent high jumper to someone who is very capable in the sprints and hurdles as well. With one season left for the senior, both her and Norton are looking forward to enjoy every moment.

“She’s spent a lot of time in the weight room this past year for really the first time and she’s definitely gotten a lot stronger,” Norton said. “I’m super proud of what she’s done so far. For some kids it’s hard to stay focused on what’s happening here in high school and you have a lot of expectations of what’s going to happen.

“But she’s super excited this season for herself and for her team. She’s done a great job being a leader for us, so I think it’s going to be fun these last couple months.”
