The positive results continued to pile up for Colorado-connected athletes on the second day of competition at the NCAA Division II National Championships meet at Grand Valley State.
Jordan Edwards (Academy of Art) advanced out of 200 meter prelims with a 20.93 clocking. Colorado Mesa's Whitney Rowe also advance to 200 meter finals on the women's side. Rowe's time to advance was 24.04.
Colorado also got a pair of advancements in the 800, with Western's Robin Butler advancing to finals with a 1:50.88 and Adams' Chante Roberts advancing with a 2:08.72.
Colorado would not see any advancers in the 100/110 hurdles prelims, but the Centennial State came roaring back in the finals of the 3000 steeple. Colorado-connected athletes took the top two positions, and five of the top seven, in the men's race. Tabor Stevens of Adams State took the win in 8:35.05, 14 seconds ahead of Mines' Tyler Curtis in second. Following at places five, six, and seven were Kirk Harvey, Neal Anderson, and Adam Sinda. The women's steeple was not as dominated by the Colorado connection, but it was still a great show for the home crowd. Alicia Nelson repeated her national title from last year with a 9:54.02, and Anna Marshall claimed the last scoring postion for Western State.
The day's activities closed with the Adams State women missing by one place advancing to Saturday's finals in the 4x400.
Men's team scores had Adams State in second with 25 points and Colorado Mines in fifth with 13 points at the end of the day. On the women's side, Adams State sat in fifth with 20 points. All remaining finals will be conducted on Saturday.
