Colorado takes aim at Albuquerque (updated once)

In six days, Great Southwest 2014 will be a set of memories. But, if you take a look at the entries Colorado is sending down the Albuquerque for Great Southwest, it may be no ordinary set of memories.

The meet is a three-day affair, with Thursday and Friday devoted to multi-event competition, plus the hammer throw, steeplechase, and some relay action on Friday evening.

Saturday morning and early afternoon is devoted to the javelin and pole vault, with the bulk of the traditional track and field events taking place starting at about 1 PM on Saturday.

At this point, I have a more comprehensive read on the girls entries from Colorado for Great Southwest than the boys, but there are several interesting entries on both sides.

Among the girls, you can expect to see Dior Hall, Shayna Yon, Chyna Ries, Maya Ries, Carly Lester, Carly Paul, Lexi Reed, Tabor Scholl, Audra Koopman, Claire Green, Damajahnee Birch, Andrea Willis, Josie Natrasevschi, Brynell Yount, Kiana Gomez, London Evans, Tarah Vijayasarathy, and several more. Entries are still being finalized and the just-mentioned list should not be deemed as even close to comprehensive.

Among the Colorado boys with Albuquerque on their mind and in their plans are Zac Petrie, Blake Yount, Trevor Rex, Trevor Cook, Chris Youngs, and Alex Miller.

All this means there should be several nice Colorado performances coming out of this event.

This article will be updated sometime later in the week as I get confirmed word of additional Colorado entries for this meet. People with an interest in registering for the meet are urged to contact Jeff Bliven without delay at jbliven2@cherrycreekschools.org.

Colorado Track XC will be on-hand for coverage each day of the Great Southwest meet. Photos and updates will be posted following the Thursday and Friday sessions. Due to the late hour of the last events on Saturday, final coverage will not appear, however, until sometime on Saturday.
