Five PRs at Golden West for Reed, Hutton, and Carrese

Lexi Reed, Ginger Hutton, and Dominic Carrese extended their track and field season by six full weeks past the Colorado state meet to compete at Golden West in California this weekend. They made it pay off with some enormous PR marks.

Reed got the PR parade underway with a 2:14.74, almost two seconds faster than her previous best at 800 meters. That time would be good enough for third. Ginger Hutton would shave a quarter second off her own 800 PR and finish right behind Reed in fourth at 2:15.78.

While Reed and Hutton were recovering for her 3200 under the lights, Carrese stepped onto the track for the mile. Carrese had a career-best 1600 mark of 4:28.86 going into the meet, but he passed 1600 meters about seven seconds ahead of that time. His official mile time stopped the clock at 4:23.27, which would take fourth in the Golden West field.

The biggest mark of the evening, however, still awaited. When Reed's turn to race the 3200 came, she dominated the field and set aside her previous PR mark by nearly 17 seconds. Reed's time of 10:53.21 left second place well in the dust. Hutton would finish third in 11:15.35, taking nearly 36 seconds off of her PR.

While the lower altitude of Sacramento clearly makes a difference for distance times, the bigger story here concerns two athletes who found a way to keep their racing edge honed deep into June.

Josephine Natrasevschi, also entered in the Golden West meet, ended up not competing.
