Notes from Eugene: Outdoor Nationals (Final Version)

Check out how Colorado-connected athletes who've been out of high school, and sometimes college, a little longer are doing in Eugene.

Thursday

Kaela Edwards advanced to semis in the 800 on place with a 2:04.95. Bethany Praska bowed out of the competition with a 2:05.41. On the men's side, Boris Berian kept himself alive for semis by place with a 1:48.47.

Trevor Brown's 50.25 was good enough to take him to semis in the 400 hurdles.

Emma Coburn and Shalaya Kipp both advanced to finals of the 3000 steeple, Coburn with the best time in prelims of 9:36.90.

Aaron Braun (9th, 28:38) and Tyler Pennel (11th, 28:46) kept the Adams/Western distance mystique alive in the 10, 000 meters deep into the evening.

In Thursday field events, Russ Winger's 211-1 earned him second place in the discus. Mason Finley would finish sixth in the same event and Casey Malone, who just seems to keep showing up at these competitions, rounded out the Colorado contingent in 15th.

Friday

Jenny Simpson posts top time in 1500 prelims with a 4:08.55. Sara Sutherland fails to advance with a 4:22.65.

Tabor Stevens advances to the steeplechase final with an 8:42.53.

Trevor Brown advances to the 400m hurdles final by the skin of his teeth with a 50.29.

Paige Blackburn hurls the javelin 165-11 for 14th.

Kaela Edwards bowed out of the 800 competition in semis with a 2:03.69. It would have taken a couple seconds worth of PR for Edwards to advance, and this was not a PR. In the men's 800, Boris Berian was unable to reprise the 1:43 magic. Berian ran 1:46.28 and missed advancing to finals.

Saturday

David Oliver posts the top time in the first round of 110 hurdle competition with a 13.28.

Joe Morris bows out in the preliminary round of the 200 with a 20.68.

Emma Coburn takes the 3000 steeple title in 9:15.59 (breaking her own meet record), while Shalaya Kipp finishes sixth in 9:37.09.

Trevor Brown comes up 7th in the 400 meter hurdles finals with a 51.07.

A pair of Colorado-connected women competed in the discus. Valarie Allman finished in 10th at 184-1, and Kiah Hicks took 15th at an even 178.

Recent Air Force grad Joey Uhle no-heighted in the pole vault, but Pueblo South and Idaho State alum Sam Pierson got over 17-8.5 on his third try to claim 13th.

Janay DeLoach took a third in the long jump with a leap of 22-9.75 (1.1).

Sunday

A trio of Colorado-connected athletes competed in the 5000, with Katie Mackey as the top finisher overall in sixth at 15:16.96. Following her were Alisha Williams in 11th at 15:46.61 and Kara Goucher in 18th at 16:05.35.

David Oliver wins the 110 hurdles at 13.04, improving on his time of 13.08 from semis.

An 8:30.18 for Tabor Stevens in the 3000 steeple places him seventh.

Jenny Simpson triumphs in the 1500, far from her first time at this, at 4:14.86.
