Scoring the 5A Boys Regions

5A Region 5 eked out top honors among the 5A regions, thanks in no small part to a big state meet by Alex Hebner and the rest of the Chaparral Wolverines. Photo by Alan Versaw.

This piece will close out the series on scoring the state meet by regions. We now put the 5A Boys regions under the microscope.

Each region is given a "team" score by adding the points of each placed earned by the region at state. The number in parentheses following the team score is the number of teams from other regions finishing behind the last place team from that region.

And, here you are...

5A Region 1: 3-5-10-15-25 = 58 (0)

5A Region 2: 11-19-20-22-24 = 96 (1)

5A Region 3: 1-6-16-18-23 = 64 (2)

5A Region 4: 2-9-12-14-17 = 54 (8)

5A Region 5: 1-7-8-13-21 = 50 (4)

With this year's exception of 5A Region 2, the 5A regions appear to be remarkably well balanced, at least in terms of state performance. Next year, of course, will see some necessarily reshuffling of the regions as teams move in and out of the 5A classification.
