Snowshoe Set to Resume!

What trail will you leave this winter? Are you a trailblazer or a pavement pounder? Winter snow does not have to be a road block to tackle your favorite trail; strap on a pair of snowshoes and go for it!

From 2010 to 2013, Colorado prep snowshoe racers from Cheyenne Mountain, Smoky Hill, Boulder, and Summit dominated the national scene. That dominance can return in 2016. The Colorado High School Snowshoe State Championships return this winter season on January 30^th, 2016.

The race will move from Summit High School in Frisco, CO to Colorado Mountain College's Timberline Campus in Leadville. Leadville's rich history of endurance sports will be a great backdrop for the race, and CMC Leadville provides miles of trails for the perfect setting for a snowshoe race. This CMC campus, one of 11 nationally recognized campuses, offers an associate's degree in Ski Area Operations. Students and faculty groom the trails surrounding the campus and the 11.5 mile long Mineral Belt Trail surrounding the City of Leadville. This grooming process will allow the race to run on trails that are not deep in powder from start to finish, making conditions fast for any level of snowshoeing ability. If you are a fan of the steep and deep, you will also get a chance to track through the finest Colorado powder. The race will take you on an adventure that you will never forget.

Are you a sprinter? Have you felt left out in past seasons? We will feature a snowshoe sprint events this season on the CMC Leadville soccer field. A medley relay is in the works too!
