Girls Arizona State Preview

With the boys scattered across 7 division in most events the girls are a little different. Three Footlocker Cross Country finalist will be competing in the 5A-I division for the state title in the 1600 and 3200m races. The 1600 is scheduled for Saturday evening and top seeded sophomore Jessica Tonn (Xavier Prep,4:52.44) will be racing Nadya (Mountain Ridge, 5:05.17) and Nastia (Mountain Ridge, 5:06.04) Bishton along with teammate, Sarah Penney (junior, Xavier Prep, 4:54.74). All four runners plus freshman, Kristina Vanderhout, will face each other in the 3200 event tomorrow evening. Lindsay Prescott from Sandra Day O'Connor will be hoping to add a few more state titles (4A Division I) to an already impressive resume.

 
Top seeded Larrissa Matthews, a junior from Chandler, will face off against teammate Micsha Carson in the 100H hurdles in 5A-I. Matthew's time of 13.90 from the Chandler Rotary Invitational places her 11th in the country.
 
Peoria High sophomore Serene William's closest competitor in the 100m dash is freshman Promise Amukamara from Apollo. Three freshmen, five sophomores and one junior make up the 100m finals in 4A-I on Saturday evening.
 
Eight of the top 10 Pole Vaulters are in 5A-I, all jumping 11-0 and over. senior Cara Carpenter (Mesa Mt. View) is seeded at the number one spot (12-4) with sophomore Shaylah Simpson (12-0) close behind.
 
Samantha Collins, a junior from Westwood, has the top long jump in the state (18-7.25) and will be jumping against the next three ranked competitors, freshman Alexis Clay (Chandler 18-1.25), freshman Hannah Carson (Dobson, 18-.075) and senior Micsha Carson (Chandler, 17-10.50). Carson is the number one triple jumper in the state and will have plenty of competition from Collins, Alexis Clay (Chandler) and Alesia Ash (Buena).
 
Quiana Jackson (Chandler) with an impressive 400m time of 56.53 should do well against Andrea Menhennet from Mountain Ridge. Kim Stoner (Dobson) and Mackenzie Flannigan (Chandler) round out the top four. All four sprinters will be running their pre-lims tonight in the 400 at Desert Vista.
