There's not a long and established tradition--more like a trickle, actually--of Colorado runners heading to the University of Tulsa. So, tell us a little about what made the program attractive for you.

When I stepped on campus, my breath was literally taken away. Academically, I know that Tulsa will prepare me best for the long run. Athletically, Coach Gulley knows how to get the job done, and I trust him to help me improve. Not only that, but the relationships that I am already starting to build with the new freshman recruits makes me even more confident in my decision.

What do you plan to study while you're a Hurricane?

Im majoring in business with a minor in psychology. 10 years down the road I will probably laugh at the fact I wanted to go into psychology, but for now it has really been spiking my interest.

I don't see that you were involved in track or cross country at all until you were a sophomore in high school. Am I missing something or, if not, can you tell us what finally prompted you to go out as a sophomore?

Back then, I would never ever consider myself an athletic person, let alone a runner. But, I learned that I had to have some type of athletic credit in order to graduate. So, my best friend made me come out to cross country practice with her. The first mile my coach timed me at was a 12:47. I was the slowest person on the team and didn't enjoy it very much. But then one day a passion for this sport was placed in my heart and any and all accomplishments I've had since then is a true gift from God.

Last year, you were nipping at Lauren Ogg's heels. This year, you've more or less been on your own at the front of the Valor distance pack. Was that an easy or a difficult transition to make?

It's been very hard to be looking ahead and not seeing Lauren there in races or at practice. It's also been hard to not have her there leading me and pushing me along the way. But, this year it's been my turn to fill her place for the team. We have a great group of underclassmen this year and I've loved having the opportunity to lead them like Lauren has lead me.

What has been the highlight of your high school career as a distance runner to date?

My favorite moment was going to the Oregon Relays with my team. I raced the 3k and before the gun went off, I looked behind me. The sunset reflected off the track as those huge stadium lights hovered over. I couldn't believe I was about to race on that track. I was reminded in that moment of how far I've gone these past two years. I was filled with so much gratitude and it has been the best memory so far, as well as the highlight of my career.

What's your favorite race to run, and why?

My favorite is the 1600 because it's not as intense as an 800, yet not as long as a 3200. But I've always wanted to try the 3k steeplechase in college so maybe that will be my new favorite race next year.
