News from Nigeria and Canada (Sunday Update)

Not all the action is at the US Olympic Trials!

In today's Juniors qualifying in Canada, Lauren Gale advanced to finals of the 400 with a time of 55.04. That is the top-seeded time going into Saturday's finals. Prelims and finals of the 200, where Gale is also entered, run on Sunday.

Across the ocean in Nigeria this week, Zainab Sanni finished sixth in the Nigerian Olympic Trials 100 (11.48, 0.3) and third the the NOT 200 (23.64). Sanni has not, to my understanding, made the Nigerian Olympic team in either event, but could still be part of the Nigerian 4x100 meter relay.

A tip of the hat to those who helped me run down these results!

Saturday Update

A press release from University of Kansas Track and Field states that Zainab Sanni has been named to the relay pool for the Nigeria 4x100 entry in the Olympics.

In Canada, Lauren Gale finished second in the Junior Women 400 at 54.52. I believe--but have not yet been able to verify--that puts her on Canada's World Junior team.

Gale completes her action tomorrow in the 200 meters.

Sunday Update

Lauren Gale ended up fourth in the Canadian Junior 200 today. Her time of 24.82 got her into finals where she ran 24.95 (-2.0) to finish fourth.

Apparently, Gale will not be part of Canada's World Juniors team in the 400 due to a birth year younger than the nation is considering for inclusion on the team.
