2016 Colorado Springs Metro: Day's Biggest Team Winner Coasts Through

TOP MOMENT OF THE MEET (2)

Widefield claims 4A Boys title with the governor fixed on threshold.

I won't tell you that every Widefield boy was running at threshold pace, but certainly a good share of them were. And, threshold pace was more than ample to win the 4A Boys team title.

Mesa Ridge's Matthew Roberds broke early from the 4A crowd and was not heard from again.

Meanwhile, Erik Nelson's boys in blue had the look of leisure both early in the race and late. Running in trainers, the Gladiators formed an unmistakable mass in the middle of the field, but a mass that actually moved up through the field as the race went on. When you've kept your own race under control early, you usually do move up a few places as the meters march on.

The top five Widefield finishers, led by Max Martinez, took places 2 - 6, notching times of 17:33 to 17:48. Two more Gladiators finished in the top 10 with times just over 18 minutes. It all looked very, very easy.
