I notice your profile picture on Colorado Track XC has a soccer ball at your feet. Tell us a little about the relationship between track and soccer for you.

I began playing soccer at a young age before track became part of my life. In the beginning of high school I was given the opportunity to play soccer at the same time as running track. This made it so I could participate in both sports that I loved. I continued both sports through my freshman and sophomore years of high school. During my junior year I made the decision to focus solely on track because track is what i wanted to participate in during my secondary education. I still enjoy soccer though I do not play it anymore.

What made the decision for Portland State for you?

A combination of things helped with my decision to attend Portland State. They offered my major. I have always enjoyed the Oregon region and knew if at all possible that is where I wanted to be. The last factor was when I had my official visit I felt at home. On some of my other trips there were times I wished to be home, this never came during the Portland State trip. I felt like I fit in with the team as well as enjoyed the programs.

What do you plan to study at Portland State?

I plan on majoring in Computer Engineering with a minor in business.

A fair number of people do both hurdles and jumps, as you do, and they seem to be--at least to a degree--complementary events. What's your favorite event? Is there one you have to work on a lot harder than the other?

My favorite event is high hurdles. I believe I have to work harder on jumps because it is not my specialty, so I don't practice jumps as much as I do hurdles. This makes it so I have a harder time with improving jumps.

Do you have any particular goals in mind for your final season of high school track and field that you're willing to share?

My goals for the coming season is to run a 13.80 by the end of my senior season in the 100 meter hurdles. In triple jumps, I want to break 37 feet.

Pick a favorite moment from high school track and field for us...

My favorite moment was winning state for the 100 meter hurdles. Just to know that all the hard work from the off season and during the season paid off.
