Colorado Simplot Notes: Thursday (corrected)

Thursday at Simplot is a long evening of nothing but weight throw and 1600/3200 prelims. As usual, there were both highs and lows for the Colorado contingent.

The guys from Roosevelt bowed out of the weight throw without legal tosses.

Colorado was shut out of advancing from 3200 prelims. Brock Dykema and Logan Simington posted sub-10 times, but it wasn't enough to advance to finals in a field led by Casey Clinger. Zoe Baker, also of Silver Creek High School, ran a sub-12 but met a similar fate in the girls 3200 prelims.

Results were somewhat brighter in the 1600 prelims. Although there were still non-qualifiers, Colorado did make some advancements to finals.

Most notably, Brie Oakley went to finals with the top prelims time of 4:59 in the girls 1600. Madi Kenyon, Lina Corrales and Hannah Gigstad will be joining Oakley in finals. I believe I have this right when I tell you there will be three finals heats of 12 each. Oakley and Kenyon will run in the top heat, with Corrales and Gigstad in the middle heat.

Among the boys, the advancers were Cole Sprout and James Lee, both at 4:31 and change, enough to advance both as part of the middle heat. Sprout, incidentally, was the lone freshman to qualify for finals.
